MAKER TERMS

Terms specific to makers.

This page hasn’t had formal legal review. It sits alongside the general terms rather than replacing them — read that page first for governing law, liability, acceptable use and how these terms can change; this page only covers what’s specific to makers.

Your profile

Your maker profile is reusable across markets: business name, categories, a short bio, website or shop links, portfolio images, and your public liability insurance status. You’re responsible for keeping it accurate and up to date, including your insurance expiry date. Marketfolk doesn’t verify anything you supply — see “Insurance and evidence” below.

Applying to a market

Applying to a market sends your profile and any market-specific answers to the organiser. The organiser decides who’s accepted; Marketfolk doesn’t influence or guarantee the outcome of any application. Withdrawing an application before a decision is made is always available to you at no cost.

If you’re accepted

If an organiser accepts your application, you’ll be shown the pitch price and a payment window (currently 72 hours from acceptance). You pay the full pitch price at that point, not a deposit. Payment is made directly to the organiser through Stripe — the organiser is the merchant of record for your payment, not Marketfolk. If you don’t pay within the window, your acceptance may lapse and the pitch may be offered to someone else from the waitlist.

If you need to cancel after paying

Cancellation terms are set by the organiser and shown to you before you pay — this is because the organiser, not Marketfolk, holds your payment and bears the practical consequences of a cancelled pitch. Marketfolk can’t independently issue you a refund; see our cancellation and refund policy for how this generally works, but the organiser’s own displayed policy for that specific event takes precedence.

Insurance and evidence

Uploading an insurance certificate marks it “certificate supplied” — this means Marketfolk has received a document and checked that its file format and signature look legitimate, not that the policy itself is genuine, current, or sufficient for any particular event. Deciding whether your cover meets their requirements is the organiser’s responsibility, not Marketfolk’s. Declaring insurance you don’t actually hold is a breach of these terms and of the acceptable-use rules in the general terms.

Conduct

Beyond the acceptable-use rules in the general terms (no false information, no misrepresenting who you are, no harassment, no circumventing verification or payment), makers specifically shouldn’t: use a market listing or another maker’s profile information for a purpose other than deciding whether to apply, or repeatedly apply to and withdraw from the same market’s applications in a way that disrupts an organiser’s planning.

Account suspension

Marketfolk may suspend or close your account for breaching these terms, the general acceptable-use rules, or if we reasonably believe your account puts another member or Marketfolk at risk. Where it’s safe and lawful to do so, we’ll explain why.

Liability

This page doesn’t create any liability beyond what’s already set out in the general terms’ liability section, which applies equally to makers and organisers.
